Online Payments

The British Pharmacopoeia are pleased to announce the introduction of online payments for the purchase of BPCRS and website subscriptions by Credit or Debit card through the BP website. The use of online payments will provide greater convenience for customers and streamline the processing of financial transactions.

All transactions are processed by RBS WorldPay, the payment processing business of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group, a major global leader in payment processing. The website uses secure, encrypted technology, including address verification and cardholder verification value where the cardholder isn't present.

New Appointments to the British Pharmacopoeia Commission

The British Pharmacopoeia Commission and the Appointments Commission are pleased to announce the appointment and re-appointment of members to the British Pharmacopoeia Commission. The British Pharmacopoeia Commission is responsible for preparing new editions of the British Pharmacopoeia and the British Pharmacopoeia (Veterinary) and for keeping them up to date. It also provides advice to the United Kingdom delegation to the European Pharmacopoeia Commission and devises British Approved Names.

Two new appointments were made with effect from 1st January 2010 for a period of four years. The new members are:

Dr Graham Cook Dr Cook is a pharmacist and is currently a Senior Director in the Global Quality and Compliance Division of Wyeth Pharmaceuticals.

Dr Brian Matthews Dr Matthews is a pharmacist who, until 2009, was the Senior Director, EC Registration, at Alcon Laboratories. He is currently a member of the BP Commission’s Expert Advisory Group on Pharmacy, the Panel of Experts on Microbiology and the Working Party on Excipients.

Re-appointments

Professor David Woolfson was re-appointed for a further four year term as Chairman with effect from 1st January 2010.

Ten existing members were re-appointed for periods of two or four years:

Professor G. Buckton, Professor D. Cairns, Mr B. Capon, Professor A.G. Davidson, Dr T.D. Duffy, Mr C.T. Goddard, Dr R.L. Horder, Dr L. Tsang, Mrs J. Turnbull, Professor E. Williamson.

These appointments are not remunerated; however a fee of £275 per meeting is paid to cover preparation and attendance, together with any travel and subsistence costs. All members are required to comply with the BP Commission’s Code of Practice relating to interests in the pharmaceutical industry.

All appointments are made on merit. Political activity pays no part in the selection process. In accordance with the original Nolan Recommendations there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity (if declared) to be made public.

The appointments have been made in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments’ Code of Practice.

 

Proposals for the revision of the Ph Eur monographs for Heparin Calcium and Heparin Sodium have been included in Pharmeuropa 22.1 for public comment

The consultation period for these drafts is shorter than usual in order that implementation of improved quality standards is not delayed.

Pharmeuropa 21.4

A list of the Draft Monographs and General Texts has now been published for Comment in Pharmeuropa 21.4 (October issue) (external link), the deadline for comments is 31 December 2009.

 The Ph. Eur. Monograph for Quinine Sulphate published in the BP 2009 is not correct.
 
*        The current monograph has been posted in the on-line version of the BP 2009.

*        The hard copy text will be corrected by means of the BP 2010.
 
Users of the BP may wish to note that Part I of the General Notices in the BP 2009 states that Ph Eur monographs are reproduced in the BP for the convenience of users and in cases of doubt or dispute reference should be made to the Council of Europe text.
