Terms and conditions

The use of the British Pharmacopoeia Commission (BPC) website (www.pharmacopoeia.gov.uk) is subject to the following terms and conditions. pharmacopoeia.gov.uk is managed by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) (referred to as ‘We’ below). In entering our site you as a user (‘You’) are accepting our terms and conditions. This section also includes our privacy policy.

Publication Scheme

The Freedom of Information (FOI) Act  (external link) asserts the right of individuals to obtain access to official information to the greatest extent possible consistent with the public interest and the need to protect legitimate confidential information. The British Pharmacopoeia Commission (BPC) currently makes information routinely available to the public in relation to its functions, membership and meetings. Such information will continue to be available without the need to use the FOI Act.

The FOI Act is designed to allow public access to information held by public bodies which is not routinely available from other sources. Access to information under the FOI Act is subject to certain exemptions and involves specific procedures and time limits, which are outlined in the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)'s Publication Scheme (external link).

The Director of the Executive Support Division of the MHRA has overall responsibility for the MHRA's Publication Scheme. Ms Jane Viner, Manager, Medicines Information and Web Services, is the individual having day-to-day responsibility maintaining the scheme.

pharmacopoeia.gov.uk is maintained for your personal use and viewing. The access and use of pharmacopoeia.gov.uk featuring these terms and conditions constitutes your acceptance of these terms and conditions. They take effect from the date on which you first use this website.

E-mail disclaimer

The purpose of this policy is to ensure that people who communicate with the MHRA understand the way in which electronic mail (e-mail) should be used. Its aim is to ensure that email is used effectively for its intended purpose without infringing legal requirements or creating unnecessary business risk.

We make every effort to check and test material at all stages of production. It is always wise for you to run an anti-virus program on all material downloaded from the Internet.

This section explains how the MHRA uses any information you give to us, and the way we protect your privacy. Protecting the privacy and personal data of the visitors to our site is of the utmost importance to us.

The Data Protection Act

In accordance with the Data Protection Act, we have a legal duty to protect any information we collect from you. We will only use your information for the purpose as described and we do not pass on your details to any other government department or third party unless you have given us permission to do so. You have a right to access your personal data and rectify any inaccuracies.

Site usage

We do not use cookies for collecting user information. Log files allow us to record visitors’ use of the site to enable us to enhance the future layout of the site. The data we gather in this way does not contain any personal information or information about which other sites you have visited.

If you provide feedback on our website we will only use it to develop and improve the site. We will keep the actual feedback for six months after which it will be deleted but analysis of feedback may be kept.

Statement coverage

This privacy statement only covers the MHRA website at http://www.pharmacopoeia.gov.uk. It does not cover other websites which may have been accessed via links from our site.

Glossary of terms

Cookies are files containing information about visitors to a web site (e.g. user name and preferences). This information is provided by the user during the first visit to a web server.
